Thank You to our clients

It is in our very web-address. Purcell Family Dentist.

As a dentist practice, this means we care about, and care for, every age group that can constitute a part of a family, from the infant to the senior. As a family, it means just that: we care about family.

For some of us, family has been little but an ongoing nightmare that as young adults we wanted nothing more than to get away from as far as possible, as fast as possible. If that is you, that is unfortunate, and we hope you will have yet opportunity to experience real family. But for others, family has been the one constant, the anchor in every storm. The place we have derived our strength from, and which has formed our character. Strong family ties can be a restriction, or a bond that holds. Sometimes both.

Happy families create space to relax together, play together, and make room for each individual member’s unique contribution and creativity. Sure, the introvert book worm might not always applaud the more entertaining member’s efforts to draw him out, and the frugal, conscientious partner may occasionally be irritated by his more generous spouse, but even those things create balance – a useful concept in almost any situation.

Happy families are also healthy families. We need emotional nurturing as much as we need healthy food, and a caring family will provide both physical as well as emotional support. Hugs are healthy – and the below article states you need eight hugs a day simply to maintain that health, twelve if you want to grow beyond. There is a saying by Virginia Satir, a respected family therapist, that

We need four hugs a day for survival. We need eight hugs a day for maintenance. We need twelve hugs a day for growth.”

Blending Thanksgiving into Christmas into New Years soon, it’s a good occasion to reflect on what things we really can be thankful for. Sometimes we are so used to each other’s company that we tend to take each other for granted. Little words can have a big impact. Let’s remember to say “Thank You”, or show a Thank You to each other. A note, a card, some flowers, a text message or email – even a Facebook post – and we want to say Thank you to you, our clients.
