Internet Resources for Kids – and their Parents

Sometimes you don’t have the time to reinforce good habits. Sometimes your kids don’t want to listen to you. Sometimes you just don’t feel qualified.

No need to feel bad. The internet is filled with fun resources, many of them put out by brand name companies. Yes, they utilize the web to their advantage for advertising. Of course they do.  But: You are always at liberty to substitute “this brand” for “that brand” later, or even choose “no brand”, and be just fine. In the meantime, why not take advantage of the free informational material these companies invest time and money in?

Here is one:

  • a Video library, interactive dental care guide and dental glossary by Colgate: http://www.colgate.com/app/CP/US/EN/OC/Information/Video-Library.cvsp

If you like printed material better, this curriculum will give you ideas, or a very long time to talk about teeth:

  • a Teacher approach: the American Dental Association offers a 80 page curriculum https://www.ada.org/sections/publicResources/pdfs/smilesmarts_curriculum.pdf

Or visit the local library, a never ending source of delight for most children.

If you like a blog-like mix of information, entertainment and pictures, here is one example:

  • a Parent approach: some ideas of how to present oral hygiene: http://mamabeefromthehive.blogspot.com/2011/03/dental-health.html

There is something there for every parenting style. You know who you are, and what appeals to you and your family. There are great resources out there. All free for the taking. Keeping teeth clean does not have to be a dragging chore. Enjoy.
