When Should I Start Brushing My Baby’s Teeth

Tips for You and your family

Off to a great start

Early preventative dental care for babies and children is the most effective way to avoid later pain and toothache. The two most commonly asked questions from first time parents are:

  1. How soon should I start brushing my baby’s teeth, and,
  2. When should they see the dentist for the first time?

The American Dental Association recommends you visit a dentist by the end your baby’s first year, whereas the Pediatric Society recommends a first visit to your dental care giver by age three. Either way, these first time visits to our Oklahoma dentist office should be to establish a routine, make sure there are no early problems, and in general let your child know that the dentist is a great place to visit.
